South Carolina: Cherokee County Lands $75 Million Recycling Facility

Green Tech Solution, a subsidiary of an investment company based in Tianjin, China, will process plastics, scrap metal and electronics at the South Carolina plant.

Green Tech Solution, Inc. recently announced plans to locate new recycling operations in Cherokee County. The company’s $75 million investment is projected to create approximately 200 new jobs.

Green Tech Solution will be establishing a new recycling operation to collect and process a variety of materials, including plastics, scrap metal, electronics and more. Green Tech Solution is a subsidiary of Tianjin Sheng Xin Non-Financing Guarantee Co., Ltd., an investment company headquartered in Tianjin, China.

South CarolinaLocated at 210 Henson Road in Blacksburg, SC, the company’s new facility is expected to come online in the second quarter of 2019. Hiring for the new jobs is projected to begin in February 2019. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project.

“We could not be more excited to locate our new recycling operations in Cherokee County, a location that has everything we need for our investment to succeed. None of this would be possible without the assistance of the local and state allies that have supported our new endeavor,” said Green Tech Solution, Inc CEO Richard Yang.

McMaster said. “We’re thrilled that Green Tech Solution, Inc has chosen to join the ranks of international companies that call our state home and look forward to many years of success.”

Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt noted that foreign direct investment has played a major role in the surging growth of SC’s recycling industry.

NANOMATERIALS MAKER PUTS FACILITY IN CHESTER COUNTY

ShayoNano USA, Inc., an innovative developer of advanced materials, announced plans to construct a new manufacturing facility in Chester County. The company’s $14.7 million capital investment is projected to bring approximately 40 new jobs to the community.

ShayoNano is a manufacturer and provider of nanomaterials, such as synthesizing additives that improve the profitability and performance of a variety of products. The company harnesses its unique, patented technology to support a range of uses, including paints and coatings, fire retardants, nanocomposites and more.

Located at 564 Ecology Lane in Chester, SC, ShayoNano’s new, 23,000-square-foot manufacturing facility is projected to start pilot plant operations in the first quarter of 2019, with manufacturing production to follow in the fourth quarter of 2019. Hiring for the new positions is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2018 and continue through next year. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to this project.

JTEKT GROWS IN SOUTH CAROLINA LOCATIONS

JTEKT North America, a subsidiary of global automotive and industrial supplier JTEKT Corporation, recently announced it has completed a $5.8 million expansion of its headquarters on the campus of the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR). The expansion project began in 2017 to accommodate the new jobs JTEKT has and will continue to create in Greenville, totaling 100 positions, all of which will be filled by 2020.

JTEKT manufactures steering systems, driveline components, bearings technologies and precision machine tools, all critical to the state’s automotive industry. The company employs more than 6,000 associates at 24 sites across North America, including four manufacturing facilities located in South Carolina. JTEKT strengthened its presence in the state by announcing the consolidation of a portion of its headquarters to CU-ICAR in Greenville.

To expand that operation, the company added 19,000 square feet of office and lab space at CU-ICAR’s One Research Drive building. This complements the 135,000 square feet of space JTEKT already occupies between two buildings on the campus. The newer space provides work areas for associates who have relocated to Greenville, as well as the new positions currently being filled.
