Metal Powder Products Investing $1.5M In Indiana

The Noblesville-based metal parts manufacturer is relocating a manufacturing division from Ohio to Indiana.

Metal Powder Products (MPP), a global provider of custom-engineered powder metallurgy product solutions, will expand its operations in Noblesville, OH. The company is moving a manufacturing division from Solon, OH to Indiana and will create up to 80 new jobs in Hamilton County by 2020. MPP has already hired 51 new employees since planning its job growth last year.

“We are very excited with regard to the move to Noblesville, and the state of Indiana and city of Noblesville have been exceptionally helpful during this process,” said Dennis McKeen, chief executive officer of MPP. “MPP sees a very bright future for our MIM operations with very rapid growth.”

The Noblesville-based company, which is a portfolio company of Mill Point Capital, will invest $1.5 million to equip and repurpose its 60,000-square-foot facility to significantly increase its production capacity in Indiana and accommodate the new division, metal injection molding (MIM) manufacturing. With the investment, MPP will dedicate 40,000 square feet to manufacturing while the remaining 20,000 square feet will be equipped to serve as office space and to support R&D capabilities. Limited production of the company’s MIM manufacturing is currently underway and will be fully operational this spring.

In 2018, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) offered MPP up to $500,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $100,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. These incentives are performance-based, meaning that until employees are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The City of Noblesville is offering permit assistance in support of the project, and Duke Energy approved additional incentives to offset a portion of the energy costs.

“Indiana has a strong reputation for making products that power our world, and we’re also developing new solutions and advancing innovative technologies that are driving industries forward,” said Elaine Bedel, president of the IEDC. “With a fiscally-sound, pro-growth business climate and talented workforce, global businesses like MPP have the confidence to expand their capabilities here and create new, skilled jobs for Hoosiers.”

“As we welcome MPP’s expansion in the Noblesville Corporate Campus, the city is excited to support the company’s plans for growth, bringing with it more jobs and greater innovation that will complement our local economy,” said Noblesville Mayor John Ditslear.

MPP has more than 1,150 employees in the U.S. and China, including 352 associates at its Noblesville and Campbellsburg, IN facilities. The company is currently hiring for skilled labor and plans to add up to 29 new positions over the next two years.

MPP specializes in the production of engineered components using powder metallurgy (PM) and MIM techniques for automotive, hydraulic, medical and mechanical applications. MIM – often referred to as powdered injection molding – is an advanced metal forming technique that uses injection molding equipment for manufacturing both simple and complex metal parts to tight tolerances. Across its eight facilities, MPP is committed to enhancing its technical capabilities by implementing new processing methods to increase production and optimize costs.

Indiana is home to 8,500 manufacturing facilities and the highest concentration of manufacturing jobs in the U.S., supporting one in five jobs. Manufacturers in Indiana have added 107,300 new jobs since July 2009, ranking No. 2 in the nation and growing at a rate of 25 percent.
