A New York developer has announced plans to build a $35-million entertainment complex, including a new 15,000-seat stadium in Lauderdale Lakes, FL, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Real estate developer Paul Anton has secured 25 acres of land in Lauderdale Lakes where he plans to build the aquatic sports and entertainment complex, giving a shot in the arm to an area that is still struggling from the economic downturn. The stadium, which will be located off of Commercial Boulevard and Route 441, will host a variety of events including national aquatic meets and various entertainment and concert events. The project is tentatively set to break ground in spring of 2013.
Chad Carroll of Douglas Elliman, is representing Anton on the project. “This sports and entertainment complex will create hundreds of new jobs and pump millions of dollars back into the local economy,” Carroll said. “We eagerly anticipate bringing this exciting project to fruition.”
Carroll said the site for the covered 15,000-seat venue, which still needs government approvals, was purchased from Westminster Academy.”
“It’s hard to find land for a stadium, and this is perfect,” Carroll told the Sun Sentinel.
While several locations were evaluated for this project, Anton ultimately felt that the Lauderdale Lakes location had the most desirable features, including the best road construction as well as the opportunity for additional uses, making it the perfect fit for this project.
“We have been warmly received in Lauderdale Lakes and pledge to make the best use of this property while giving back to a community that we consider a good neighbor. Our goal with this project is to help revive the local economy while doing something good for the city,” Anton said in a statement.
Anton has developed several luxury projects in Miami area including the $10 million dollar Leslie Hotel renovation and the rebirth of the famous Carlyle Hotel through a conversion to luxury condos in 2005.
