The company will invest $5 million in a new recycling facility in Barnwell County.

Climax Global Energy Inc. has announced plans to locate a new state-of-the-art plastics-to-oil recycling facility in Barnwell County< SC. The $5 million investment is expected to generate 20 new jobs.

“We are excited about moving forward with commercialization of our new technology. Barnwell County is a great location for our business and offers a talented workforce to suit our needs. We appreciate the support we’ve received from state and local officials,” said Thomas Pinto, chief operating officer of Climax Global Energy.

The company will convert mixed waste plastics into high grade synthetic oil which can be refined into clean transportation fuels, synthetic lubricants and commercial waxes. The facility is expected to begin operations in mid-2012.

“We celebrate Climax Global Energy’s decision to invest in Barnwell County and create 20 new jobs. While we constantly strive to bring investment to all corners of our state, we are always excited to see companies choose to land operations in our rural areas,” said Gov. Nikki Haley.

Since 2009, Commerce has recruited more than $950 million in investment and more than 3,000 new jobs in the alternative energy sector.

“Today’s announcement builds on South Carolina’s growing reputation in the alternative energy sector. Climax Global Energy’s investment in our state is also another indication that our state’s business-friendly climate is helping to create new jobs,” said Bobby Hitt, Secretary of Commerce.

Today’s announcement is the fifth economic development announcement in Barnwell County in the past three months.

“We are proud to include Climax Global Energy among a growing and distinguished list of companies that have chosen to call Barnwell County home,” said Barnwell County Council Chairman Travis Black.

“By providing a business-friendly climate and skilled workforce, and ensuring existing buildings are ready for adaptive use, our county can continue to attract companies that create new job opportunities for Barnwell County. We look forward to continuing working with Climax Global Energy and wish them well in their endeavors here,” said Barnwell County Economic Development Commission Chairman Pete Grady.
