AmerisourceBergen, one of the world’s largest global health care solutions companies, has opened a new 327,000-square-foot distribution facility in Whitestown, IN. As part of the company’s Indiana growth plans, AmerisourceBergen plans to create more than 120 new jobs in the coming years, with additional expansion capacity in the future.
The Pennsylvania-based company is investing $45.28 million to open the facility in the Perry Worth Industrial Park. AmerisourceBergen has installed state-of-the-art equipment to create a high-tech distribution center, which will package, process and ship pharmaceuticals to health care providers, veterinary practices and livestock producers across the country.
“Over the past several years, AmerisourceBergen has made strategic investments in our distribution network as part of our commitment to creating the most efficient healthcare and pharmaceutical network. The new operation in Whitestown will enable us to strengthen our ability to improve product access, increase supply efficiency and enhance patient care,” said Erin Horvath, senior vice president of distribution services at AmerisourceBergen. “We are proud to become a part of the Indiana community and are privileged to draw from the dedicated Whitestown workforce.”
AmerisourceBergen distributes 1.5 million pharmaceutical product lines to more than 50,000 health care facilities around the world. The company, which is ranked No. 11 on the Fortune 500 list, is one of the largest global pharmaceutical sourcing and distribution service companies in the world, helping both health care providers and pharmaceutical and biotech manufacturers improve patient access to products and enhance patient care.
“As a top state for business, it’s no surprise that some of the nation’s largest businesses choose Indiana for their growth,” said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch. “In addition to creating new jobs, AmerisourceBergen’s decision to open this new facility in Indiana places Hoosiers in the important role of helping people across the country receive important medications. We’re proud to be a global logistics leader, and with Indiana’s long-term roads plan, we’ll soon be taking our status as the Crossroads of America to the next level.”
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) offered AmerisourceBergen Drug Company up to $825,000 in conditional tax credits based on the company’s job creation plans. The tax credits are performance based, so until employees are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The town of Whitestown approved additional incentives at the request of the Boone County Economic Development Corporation.
“We are pleased to welcome AmerisourceBergen to Indiana’s fastest-growing community,” said Whitestown Town Manager Dax Norton. “AmerisourceBergen’s high-tech distribution center is a perfect fit for the Perry Worth Industrial Park, and we look forward to seeing them flourish.”
