The retail giant will create 300 full-time jobs at its new distribution center at the Kanza Fire Commerce Park in Topeka, KS.

Topeka, Kansas Picked For $200M Walmart Distribution Center

Walmart has selected Topeka, KS as the site of its biggest distribution center in Kansas. The retail giant will invest $200 million and create 300 full-time jobs at the new 1.8 million square foot distribution center in south Topeka’s Kanza Fire Commerce Park.

Walmart Topeka, KSThe Joint Economic Development Organization (JEDO) has approved cash incentives totaling up to $1.87 million for the project. JEDO contracts with GO Topeka to promote economic development initiatives in Shawnee County and manage economic development revenue received through the countywide half-cent sales tax county residents voted to extend in 2014.

Topeka’s centralized location in the U.S. played a key role in it being picked, according to Greg Smith, executive vice president of Walmart U.S. Supply Chain.

“Nestled in America’s heartland, this Topeka site is perfectly located and boasts a skilled workforce that will help Walmart better serve its customers in the region,” said Smith “We’re proud to add this site to our strong supply chain network and bring jobs to hard-working Kansans.”

Walmart Topeka, KSTopeka’s fourth Walmart distribution center in Kansas will be its largest in the state, with more than 1.8 million square feet at approximately 35’ clear stacking height. The new facility will occupy part of the remaining 236 acres in the Kanza Fire Commerce Park near the south side of Topeka. The arrival of this new distribution center will bring with it an estimated 300 new full-time positions over the next five years.
