Chiyoda USA Corporation, an automotive parts manufacturer, has announced plans to expand its operations in Greencastle, IN, creating up to 300 new jobs by 2017. The company will construct and equip a new facility at its existing U.S. headquarters in Putnam County.
“Indiana continues to attract private sector manufacturing jobs because companies like Chiyoda USA recognize the strengths of the Hoosier State,” said Gov. Mike Pence. “Our low taxes and a balanced budget ensure financial predictability, while a robust workforce and superior statewide vocational training assure businesses that skilled Hoosiers are ready to fill jobs and contribute to their success.”
The building, which will house a new paint line, will be adjacent to the company’s current building. The investment will also be used to purchase additional equipment at the company’s current facility to increase manufacturing capacity for one of its primary customers, Subaru of Indiana Automotive.
Established in May 2005, the company’s Greencastle location currently employs 133 full-time Indiana residents as well as more than 100 temporary associates. Chiyoda USA, which is one of Putnam County’s largest employers, started construction in June 2015 and expects to begin hiring for production through supervisor positions within the next six months.
“Almost 10 years has passed since Chiyoda came to Greencastle,” said Michihiro Oe, chief executive officer of Chiyoda USA. “We are excited to be expanding with the additional building and jobs. The completion of our new building is schedule for March 2016. We are very glad to be able to give back to our community by providing these jobs.”
Chiyoda USA is owned by Japan-based Chiyoda Manufacturing Corporation, which is headquartered in Ota City, Gunma, Japan. The company produces a variety of automotive parts, including air conditioning ducts, gusset covers, roof rail covers, rear spoilers and fender molding, trunks and trunk covers, hood grills, side protectors, bumper covers, harnesses and camera covers.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Chiyoda USA Corporation up to $1,225,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $75,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. The city of Greencastle will consider additional incentives at the request of the Greencastle/Putnam County Development Center Inc.
“We are so very pleased to have Chiyoda USA Corporation, an international company headquartered in Greencastle, growing, investing and adding jobs in our community,” said Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray. “This is a significant project for Chiyoda. We appreciate their investment and look forward to their continued growth and success. Since coming to Greencastle in 2005, this marks Chiyoda’s seventh investment in the last 11 years. The city administration, the council and the community are very pleased to be able to support their efforts. This is another example of how the great business climate in Greencastle is helping the community grow and prosper.”
