The Detroit Region stands as a beacon of economic vitality and innovation, driving the seamless movement of people, products, and goods across the globe. With a location that places more than 180 million individuals within a 10-hour drive—nearly half of the U.S. and Canadian populations—the region has emerged as a logistical powerhouse.

Bolstered by its status as a top-tier warehousing hub, Detroit ranks third in the nation for the fastest-growing talent in warehousing, with a 208% increase from 2018 to 2022. Additionally, it holds the fourth position as the best distribution hub in the U.S., testament to its efficiency and effectiveness in facilitating trade.

The impending completion of the $5.4 billion Gordie Howe Bridge in early 2025 marks a significant milestone in the region’s infrastructure. This 1.5-mile international bridge, a collaborative effort between the public and private sectors, Canada, Michigan, and the United States, is projected to revolutionize international cross-border transportation, saving over 850,000 hours annually for trucking operations.

The Detroit Region boasts a robust transportation network, including more than 15 airports and 2,100 miles of highways and interstates connecting to national and international destinations. Michigan’s commitment to infrastructure development is evident in its plans to invest over $11.1 billion in interstates and $24 billion in enhancing the entire transportation system by 2025. With seven cargo ports, including one of the nation’s largest steel handling ports, and investments totaling over $115 million in port infrastructure, the region solidifies its position as a key player in maritime trade.

The Detroit Region’s leadership in connected vehicle technology further cements its role as an innovator in the transportation sector. The unveiling of the first public in-road charging system in the U.S. in 2023, a $5 million investment slated for expansion through 2025, underscores the region’s commitment to pioneering solutions that drive economic growth and sustainability.
