The City of Mobile has become an epicenter for logistics with several major transportation systems, including the Mobile River and the Port of Mobile, connecting the city to domestic and global markets.

Mobile has the right mix in its transportation network to keep business moving including two deepwater ports, a top-performing container terminal, five class 1 railroads, two interstate systems, and 15,000 miles of inland waterways.

Mobile is a manufacturing hub with a long history of foreign direct investment. World class companies in industry sectors such as aerospace, maritime, chemical, metal, and distribution are supported by a skilled workforce.

Recent infrastructure Improvements include the Port of Mobile undergoing a $350 million deepening and widening project. When complete, Mobile will be the deepest port in the Gulf of Mexico and the largest container ships coming through the Panama Canal will stop in Mobile first to offload.

Airbus is one example of a company that has chosen to expand in Mobile due to the city’s logistics advantages and access to a skilled workforce. In 2023, Airbus broke ground on a third final assembly line in Mobile to support increased global production of its A320 family of aircraft. This expansion will add 1,000 new jobs to the Mobile facility by 2025.

Mobile’s strategic location on the Gulf of Mexico allows products to move in and out of the Port of Mobile efficiently and timely to keep up with ongoing production at the site.
