Strong Workforce, Stronger Economy

With work-life balance an ongoing concern, many communities and companies are taking action to support their workforce.

Tomball, TX: Big City Amenities, Small Town Charm

The city of Tomball, Texas is a destination of choice for domestic and international corporations. While Tomball’s premier location near Houston and collaborative spirit are attractive to business, the city’s commitment to offering an exemplary quality of living fosters a superior work-life balance and an abundance of jobs.

Educating the next generation of leaders. The award-winning Tomball Independent School District (ISD), serving more than 18,000 students across 20 campuses, has received consecutive “A” ratings from the Texas Education Agency. Additionally, Lone Star College-Tomball and various private schools share a dedication to tutor the next wave of Tomball’s labor force.

The Tomball Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) recognizes the importance of developing skilled professionals, and therefore considers Tomball ISD one of its most important partners. The Tomball EDC worked closely with Tomball ISD, Lone Star College-Tomball, and HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball to launch Tomball ISD’s Early College High School for Pathways (P-TECH) initiative. Focused on training students to meet healthcare job needs and providing immediate access to healthcare jobs upon graduation, the P-TECH initiative was recognized after its inaugural year with a Texas Economic Development Council Workforce Excellence Award.

The Tomball EDC also spearheads a Summer Youth Employment Program. Offered to students aged 16-20 who attend Tomball high schools or colleges and students with disabilities until age 22, youth receive paid summer employment in a variety of industries. A dozen local Tomball businesses receive up to $4,000 in grant funds for providing hands-on-experience and a taste of real-world work environments to two summer interns.

Producing job-ready candidates is a priority, given Tomball EDC’s proven track record of attracting companies. Since 2011, the TEDC has aided in creating more than 2,000 local jobs by delivering nearly $500 million in capital investment from businesses.

Historic charm, booming retail. Tomball’s diverse attractions, award-winning festivals, live music, and sporting events draw thousands of visitors every year and put Tomball businesses at the center of the excitement.

Old Town Tomball offers a trip back to the early 1900s when the city was a railroad hub. The flavor of the past is found in the quaint and inviting Downtown Shopping District, which features charming boutique shopping at more than 50 shops in the area. Through its downtown improvement programs, the TEDC has approved more than $4 million in matching grant funds to promote the renovation, rehabilitation, restoration, and enhancement of facades in Tomball.

On a larger shopping scale, new projects like the multibillion-dollar global retailer Costco opened the doors to its 152,000-square-foot store in August. Costco pinpointed the corner of Highway 249 and Holderrieth Road in Tomball for its 40th location in Texas.

Tomball’s diverse offerings to positively shape, support, and grow the city’s premier workforce helps businesses thrive.
