Ohio: Capturing Attention, And Investments

In 2022, megaprojects from the semiconductor and automotive industries are boosting the Buckeye State.

Said Senator Brown in recent remarks: “A dozen years ago, plenty of politicians wrote off the American Auto Industry. We have proved them wrong every day since, and today Ohio represents the future of the global auto industry. Ford’s decision to produce its next generation of commercial electric vehicles in Ohio and bring more jobs to Lorain County is a testament to the strength of our state’s manufacturing sector and the talent of Ohio’s workers.”

In other Ohio news, France-based Forsee Power will develop a scalable 3-GWh manufacturing site with 150 employees by 2027. In June, Forsee Power announced it will establish its North American headquarters and gigafactory in Hilliard, OH. Forsee Power is a French industrial group which specializes in smart battery systems for sustainable electric transport (light vehicles, off-highway vehicles, buses, trains and ships). With this statement, the company will have a distinctive international footprint in the battery system industry.

Forsee Power Picks Ohio For North American HQ And Gigafactory 

In Ohio’s Columbus Region, France-based Forsee Power will develop a scalable 3-GWh manufacturing site with 150 employees by 2027.

“We found Columbus to have the right ecosystem of potential supply chain partners, academic partners, and the right fit for workforce as we are looking at hiring production operators, R&D engineers and a full leadership team to run our North American activity,” explained Christophe Gurtner, Chairman & CEO of Forsee Power. “The U.S. administration has designed a very ambitious roadmap toward decarbonation. There are tremendous opportunities to grow on our target market segments: our field-proven experience, our ability to scale up industrial capabilities and to innovate zero-emission solutions for electric vehicle manufacturers will be key assets to rapidly position as a leader in North America.”

Meanwhile, ZIN Technologies, a developer of space flight hardware will create 125 new jobs at its its Middleburg Heights, OH facility. The company will add 125 new positions and invest approximately $740,000 in an expansion of its Middleburg Heights headquarters.

It’s been announced that ZIN Technologies has joined a founding leadership team which will establish the George Washington Carver (GWC) science park in Low Earth Orbit with Nanoracks-Voyager. The GWC science park will reside on Starlab, the first ever free-flying commercial space station. The Starlab GWC Science Park is the world’s first-ever science park in space.

“As home to such legends as Neil Armstrong and John Glenn, it is fitting that ZIN Technologies’ expansion in Ohio is advancing the next generation of technology that NASA, the Department of Defense, and private industry will deploy in outer space,” said Nauseef at JobsOhio. “ZIN Technologies’ investment in Northeast Ohio brings 125 good-paying jobs, further strengthening Ohio’s aerospace and aviation sector.”

GRANTS FOR OHIO INNOVATION

The Ohio University Innovation Center was recently awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development Office to provide technical and business development support for current and future Ohio University Innovation Center clients.

The project, titled “Technical Business Development Assistance for Advanced Manufacturing, Alternative Energy, and Additive Manufacturing,” will utilize approximately $100,000.
