Lexington’s Urban County Council approved a resolution Thursday night endorsing an economic development partnership between Lexington and Louisville as proposed by Lexington Mayor Jim Gray and Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, the Herald-Leader reports.
Vice Mayor Linda Gorton, who introduced the resolution, said the Louisville Metro Council was scheduled to meet Thursday night to vote its support for the Bluegrass Economic Advancement Movement.
The initiative, announced in August, is to develop a regional business plan between the two cities to increase their competitiveness in advanced manufacturing. The Brookings Institution is providing support.
A press conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday in Frankfort to announce the board of directors. The two mayors will then preside over the board’s first meeting.
Over the next 18 months, a detailed business plan will be developed for a new super-region that will stretch from Louisville to Lexington. Businessman Jim Host will lead the project.
