General Motors is starting work on a $200-million stamping facility at its Arlington, TX Assembly Plant that will add 180 jobs and should improve the overall quality of the plant’s full-size SUVs.
The stamping plant will produce parts such as doors, hoods, fenders and inner body pieces that currently are made at other stamping facilities, some of which are more than 1,000 miles away. Those parts are sometimes damaged now during shipping.
The new facility, which should be in operation sometime next year, is expected to save GM $40 million a year, company officials said.
