Digital Adaption Key To Manufacturing Industry

Embracing new technologies will be an important avenue as growth is projected to continue in the manufacturing industry.

Louisiana: Tailored-Made Advanced Manufacturing

Louisiana’s well-equipped workforce, pro-business climate, and robust logistical network have long built a foundation for advanced manufacturing companies in the state.

That legacy continues today through diverse manufacturers, a top-ranked workforce development program, business incentives, and the opportunity to reach global markets.

The state’s established manufacturing workforce provides a major advantage for industry-leading companies. Niagara Bottling, a drink manufacturer supplying big-name U.S. retailers with a variety of bottled beverages, recently chose Louisiana for a $160 million, state-of-the-art production facility.

The new, automated 500,000-square-foot manufacturing plant will contain advanced equipment and technology to increase production efficiency.

“Louisiana has a rich manufacturing history and stood out as a highly attractive partner for this project, thanks to a combination of location, logistical support and workforce,” Niagara Bottling Executive Vice President Brian Hess said.

The state offered Niagara a competitive incentive package featuring the comprehensive solutions of Louisiana Economic Development FastStart and the Industrial Tax Exemption (ITEP) and Quality Jobs Rebate (QJ) programs.

ITEP offers qualifying manufacturers that locate or expand in Louisiana up to an 80% performance-based reduction of property taxes for up to 10 years. On top of that, QJ provides a performance-based cash rebate to companies that can document the creation of qualifying full-time jobs for Louisiana residents. This program offers up to a 6% rebate on payroll expenses for up to 10 years and either a state sales/use tax rebate on capital expenses or a 1.5% project facility expense rebate for qualifying expenses.

Training and reskilling workers for multi-billion-dollar energy facilities and wood manufacturing plants alike, LED FastStart consistently ranks as one of the nation’s top workforce development programs. LED FastStart sets the standard for excellence in workforce development using advanced digital tools, artificial intelligence, hands-on programs, and customized training resources.

FastStart has worked with more than 300 companies, leveraging the latest technology for tailored training programs. By collaborating with employers, LED FastStart also customizes curricula to directly meet company needs.

Louisiana’s workforce and attractive incentives are among the best in the nation, and the state offers an additional edge: a global gateway to international commerce.

Positioned for both inbound and outbound logistics, Louisiana’s six interstate highways, six Class I railroads, and six deep-water ports serve a crucial role in the domestic and international supply chain.

A Port of New Orleans expansion adds to Louisiana’s infrastructure prominence, with the recently announced $1.8 billion Louisiana International Terminal (LIT) container facility, which dramatically increases Louisiana’s import and export capacity. LIT is expected to handle 2 million TEUs annually, strengthening Louisiana’s attractiveness for distribution centers and logistics services.

Identifying an ideal location is the critical first step to any successful business, and manufacturers that have chosen Louisiana are prospering.
