Automotive Supplier Investing $15M In Michigan Expansion

US Farathane, LLC is expanding its operations in the city of Port Huron, MI, creating 205 new jobs in the area over the next three years.

US Farathane, LLC—a global automotive supplier that serves the automotive industry, including OEMs and Tier 1 suppliersis expanding in the city of Port Huron, MI. The company will invest $15 million in the project, which will create an additional 205 jobs in the area over the next three years.

“The company has been awarded several new contracts to manufacture interior and under-hood components and plans to expand two of its Michigan subsidiaries,” said Jim Gregory,CFO of US Farathane.

The company will lease a 108,000-square-foot building in the Port Huron Industrial Park for its warehousing and distribution operations. The new space will allow the company to convert its existing warehousing space and expand its production capabilities.

The Michigan Strategic Fund board will provide the company with a $2.3 million Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant and the city of Port Huron is offering marketing and promotional assistance and/or use of public facilities in support of the project.

The Michigan Development Program is an incentive program available from the Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF), in cooperation with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). The program is designed to provide grants, loans or other economic assistance to businesses for highly competitive projects in Michigan that create jobs and/or provide investment.

“We are very pleased that Port Huron was selected over other locations in the metro Detroit region,” said Port Huron Mayor Pauline Repp. “This expansion will provide great manufacturing employment opportunities for our residents and the entire St. Clair County region.”

US Farathane LLC, opened in 2014 and the company’s nearly $4 million facility was supported with a tax abatement from the City of Port Huron at that time.      

“Our region’s automotive industry cluster continues to be a staple for job creation in the community,” said Dan Casey, CEO of The Economic Development Alliance of St. Clair County (EDA).  He noted that the area continues to see interest from automotive related businesses and that as part of its attraction efforts the EDA aggressively markets its strengths in the automotive sector to outside investors.
