Global manufacturer 3M will invest $40 million to expand its operations in Springfield, MO where it produces industrial adhesives and tapes for the aerospace industry and other heavy industrial customers around the world. The company expects the expansion to result in the creation of 90 full-time positions over the next several years.

3M Springfield Missouri“This investment builds upon our 50 years of successful operations in Springfield and our commitment to the community,” said Frederick James, plant manager, 3M Springfield.

Based in Minnesota, the Fortune 100 multinational company has operations in more than 70 countries. 3M also has operations throughout Missouri including Columbia and Nevada.

“We thank 3M for its decision to invest in Missouri and in our workers by creating dozens of new jobs,” said Gov. Eric Greitens. “3M is a science-based global company that manufactures more than 50,000 products that people use every day. We hope 3M’s expansion of its adhesives and tapes division in Missouri sends a message to those in the business community—from the small family business to the major corporation—that we are going to work to help them grow and prosper.”

The Missouri Department of Economic Development, the City of Springfield, the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce and the Springfield Business Development Corporation assisted the company with its expansion. 3M’s decision to expand in Springfield comes after the city council voted last November to pass a resolution of intent to support the new project, which included assurances of a tax abatement. The council also approved the intent to issue bonds, with payments reimbursed by the company.
