“We are excited to be continuing to invest in Costa Rica and creating thousands of new roles. It has been a pleasure to work with such talented people in the region who bring high levels of experience and passion to their work,” said Tom Weiland, VP Worldwide Customer Service, Amazon. “Amazon’s customer service is one of the strongest in supporting and delighting our customers day in day out and I am proud to see the team in Costa Rica growing as part of our global network.”

Amazon opened its first customer service center in Costa Rica in October 2008, and since then, has had continuous growth of operations and functions in the country. Costa Rica has also become a business services center for other operations such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and other departments in the technology industry including Alexa Data Services, Transaction Risk Merchant, Seller Partner as well as financial services.

“[T]he announcement made by Amazon to create 2,000 job openings will have, without a doubt, a great impact on the quality job creation in different regions of the country, where the company pursues a methodology of virtual employment,” said Costa Rica’s president, Carlos Alvarado Quesada.

With more than 7,500 employees in addition to these new hires, Amazon will be the largest employer in Costa Rica’s services sector.

“In 2008 and with only 75 employees, Amazon started writing its story in Costa Rica,” said Jorge Sequeira, general director of CINDE. “Today we are proud to know that its local operations have helped the company globally to set the standards on technology by trusting the local human talent. The country reflects the impact of the company, where even 600 persons that live outside the Metropolitan Area work on a 100% virtual system from their homes.”

“Amazon announced the creation of 2,000 new jobs in different areas such as customer service, technology and in the finance sector,” added Minister of Foreign Trade Dyalá Jiménez. “This is an announcement that fills us with pride for the trust they are placing in our country, being a company that is consolidated as the largest employer of the services sector in Costa Rica. Additionally, it offers great employment opportunities for those who are searching for jobs in those areas.”
