Porta North America will relocate its North American headquarters from Newington, CT to southwest Charlotte, NC. In addition, the company, a subsidiary of Italy-based Porta-Solutions S.p.A., is expanding its U.S. business operations with the opening of a North American Training Center for Flexible Production. The facility will offer training in Lean Manufacturing practices for customers as well as any company in the production metal cutting industry, enabling them to better compete in the world marketplace. The expansion and relocation will create more than 25 new jobs and a $3.5 million capital investment.
“The Charlotte region was selected for several reasons, including the world-class airport, strong economic growth and especially the skilled workforce,” said Maurizio Porta, CEO of Porta-Solutions. “We are excited to work closely with the area’s technical schools to establish a collaborative relationship that will be both beneficial to our training center and the community.”
Porta North America is the North American service center for Porta Solutions, a global manufacturer of highly flexible production metal cutting machines. Porta Solutions is a world leader in high volume machine tools, offering both special purpose machines as well as the Multicenter high output machining center line. Its customer base is diverse, ranging from the fluid handling, automotive, defense and hand tools industries – with many longtime customers located a short distance from the Charlotte area.
“Porta North America relocating their U.S.A. Headquarters to Charlotte is a win for our city,” said Tracy Dodson, Assistant City Manager with the city of Charlotte. “The technological innovations this company is accomplishing through Flexible Production methods is further evidence we have the business climate and workforce to support the growth of our advanced manufacturing industry.”
