Schendel Pest Services to Acquire New Downtown Building for Corporate HQ
GO Topeka announced the retention and expansion of Schendel Pest Services corporate headquarters at the July 6 meeting of the Joint Economic Development Organization (JEDO). By acquiring the former Hawkins Optical Laboratories building at 1035 SE Quincy, Schendel’s corporate headquarters will stay in Topeka, retain 26 current employees and add up to ten more over the next three years.

Allen Foods Announces Decision to Build Manufacturing Facility in Topeka
Allen Foods has confirmed its decision to build a new manufacturing facility in Topeka, Kansas on a 20-acre site in the Central Crossing Commerce Park in south Topeka. The Company, which produces fresh baked goods, will build a state of the art commercial bakery and create in excess of 50 new jobs in the area. The company’s capital investment in Topeka will exceed $30 million.

Topeka/Shawnee County First Opportunity Fund Receives CDFI Certification
The Community Development Financial Institution Fund, a program of the US Department of the Treasury, recently certified the Topeka/Shawnee County First Opportunity Fund, L.L.C. (T/SCFOF) as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). The fund’s certification status will be effective until January 29, 2013, with the ability and option to recertify.
