TENNESSEE State Incentives

The Jobs Package Initiative allows the state to invest in preparing the current workforce for future jobs through training and/or retraining programs. Additionally, this incentive provides upgrade training of companies' existing employees to support expansions, new product lines, new manufacturing processes, etc.

The Fast Track Industrial Infrastructure Program provides grants to local government entities for the benefit of relocating or expanding industries, and was recently expanded to include significant technological improvements including digital switches, fiber optic cabling, or other technological improvements.

The Sunset Provision for the Jobs Tax Credit was extended from January 1, 2008 to January 1, 2011. It includes new high-skill, high-wage jobs in high-technology areas, emerging occupations, and skilled manufacturing. The statute was amended to allow taxpayers who qualify for the increased jobs tax credit in connection with an investment of $500 million to receive the credit on an annual basis for each tax year (up to a maximum of 10 years) in which the jobs remain filled at wages equal to or greater than 150% of the state's average industrial wage.

The Qualified Headquarters Facility Relocation Expense Credit is a franchise and excise tax credit equal to the amount of qualified relocation expenses incurred by a taxpayer in connection with the establishment of a headquarters facility. The credit is available if the taxpayer is eligible for the sales and use tax headquarters facility credit, and qualifies for the franchise and excise tax job tax credit in connection with a required capital investment in excess of $1 billion. The total relocation expense credit allowed can't exceed $50,000 multiplied by the number of employee positions relocated to the facility during the investment period.
