South Central Power to Provide Energy to Zulily’s New Fulfillment Center near Columbus

Zulily, a leading online retailer with products for moms, kids and babies, has opened a new fulfillment center in Obetz, Ohio, just southeast of Columbus. Electrical power is provided to the Village of Obetz utility system by South Central Power Company, an Ohio electric cooperative.

One of the fastest growing companies in the U.S., Zulily recently hosted a grand opening ceremony at its new facility in Creekside Industrial Park in Obetz. Officials from Zulily, Columbus2020 and JobsOhio, as well as local dignitaries including Governor Kasich, were in attendance.

The online retailer plans to add several hundred jobs to the Columbus region over the next five years.

South Central Power Company is a member-owned electric cooperative serving over 110,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in 24 Ohio counties.

Zulily selected the Columbus region for its center after a careful evaluation of other midwest and mid-Atlantic markets. In the end, Zulily’s decision came down to its ability to quickly fulfill orders from the Obetz location and the speed at which JobsOhio and the Columbus2020 economic development teams worked to address the company’s needs and issues.

“The state, county and local businesses have all been incredibly helpful and have made it possible for Zulily to pursue our aggressive growth plans and to have a smooth transition process into the region,” said Darrell Cavens, CEO of Zulily.

The depth of the region’s assets for a fulfillment operation, including ease of access to customers, cost and quality of labor, favorable tax climate, logistics infrastructure and available energy attracted Zulily.

“The logistics industry is a critical component of our economy,” said Kenny McDonald, chief economic officer of Columbus2020. “We are pleased to welcome Zulily to the region. We look forward to working collaboratively with our state and local partners to continue to ensure that the company’s needs at the Obetz operation are met.”
