LiveXchange 2014 Presentation: Negotiating Incentives, Land Costs, and Energy Costs for Major Projects

This LiveXchange recap is brought to you by  and

Business Facilities LiveXchange 2014 offered a comprehensive, practical, and strategic conference program to help corporate delegates better plan and manage their companies’ relocation or expansion projects. As with past years, one of the highlights of the event was the timely presentations by knowledgeable speakers. This year, returning speaker Mark Williams of Strategic Development Group shared his thoughts on “Negotiating Incentives, Land Costs, and Energy Costs for Major Projects.”

Corporations locating major projects in the U.S. create profound positive economic impact in the states and communities where facilities are established.  Not surprisingly, most states, local municipalities and utilities offer significant incentives to induce the location of major capital projects.  Corporations have varied success in maximizing the value of incentives based on their incentive negotiation expertise.

williamsThis session addressed key issues related to maximizing the value of incentives in the negotiation process while simultaneously enhancing relationships with states and communities.  It also addressed key considerations related to calculating the true value of incentives and avoiding situations where an incentive deal appears to be successful when in fact the deal encourages a site selection which generates financial challenges over the long-term.  The session highlighted public sector considerations when offering incentives.
