Global data center services provider CyrusOne has announced its plans to build an enterprise-class multi-tenant data center on property it recently purchased in the Loudoun Tech Center in Sterling, VA. This will be the first data center facility CyrusOne has built to serve the East Coast market.

“The purchase of acreage in Northern Virginia is the first step in extending CyrusOne’s presence to the East Coast,” said Gary Wojtaszek, president and chief executive officer of CyrusOne. “We’re very excited to bring our unique approach to providing colocation solutions for Fortune 1000 enterprise customers to a market such as Northern Virginia, which has superior fiber connectivity options and a steady absorption rate of new space. Locating a data center in Loudoun County will allow us to meet existing customer demand for space in the region, and we expect to begin development of our new facility in the second quarter of 2014.”

“Adding a world-class operator like CyrusOne to the many established companies in Data Center Alley is further evidence of the importance to Loudoun as a technology location,” said Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott York. “Facilities like these highlight why Loudoun is primed to continue as a technology and data capital for the 21st century.”

“Loudoun County continues to be a proven winner for secure network infrastructure,” said Matt Letourneau, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Economic Development Committee. “With competitive electricity rates, excellent reliability, and abundant fiber, we offer unmatched content distribution capability. In addition, we have one of the most highly educated workforces in the nation, and our location offers outstanding access to the entire East Coast.”

“I want to personally commend the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors’ efforts to further improve data center development and operating conditions in the county,” added Wojtaszek. “We also appreciate the assistance we received from the county Department of Economic Development during the site selection research and due-diligence process for this property acquisition. Ours is a customer-service-oriented business, and we look for that same spirit of collaboration in the communities where we operate.”
